We are currently hiring project superintendents for projects in Connecticut. We are looking to fill the role of a level 2 Superintendent. At Waters there are three levels of a project superintendent. We pride ourselves on progressing our employees through these stages and onto project management. Salary for a level 2 super is $115,000.00 to $125,000.00
This individual would have the capability of running the field operations for medium sized jobs in the 2 to 8 million dollar range. This superintendent would be constructing primarily site work and roadwork. Simple span bridge construction experience a plus.
Further more he/she would have to be able to effectively fulfill the following obligations:
- Set agenda and arrange and attends meetings with inspectors and owner’s representatives
- Can do full quantity take-off from blue prints including earth cuts and fills (oncenter/onscreen, earthworks)
- Can visualize end product from plans
- Understands complete layout and use of total stations
- Is willing and able to make sensible decisions in the field without office backup
- Begins to recognize opportunities to increase profits and is able to capitalize on them
- Can motivate crews to meet schedules and maximize profits
- Can run a night time operation under traffic
- Is responsible for safety on the entire project
- Understands and uses Job Cost software. (HCSS a plus)
- From cost tracking software can review monthly quantities with inspector
- From cost tracking software is able to adjust manpower/equipment combinations and adjust activity procedures to maximize man hour/cost productivities.
- Oversees multiple crews and multiple foremen
- Has full control of subcontractors and understands the intricacies of the sub-contractor’s work
- Has full command of the inspector-superintendent relationship
- Can handle independently work and personal issues of employees under his/her direction
- Is willing and able to train foremen
- Can do a full quantity take off including structure work and electrical work
- Not only can he/she visualize the entire project but can modify designer’s plans to achieve greater efficiency and profitability.
- Has basic understanding of estimating. Can estimate a price for a change order
- Has basic understanding of project management techniques and the software needed to effectively apply those techniques

Superintendent Level 1: Entry Level
A Superintendent at this level should be able to complete the following tasks in addition to the tasks of the foremen level 1,2,3:
1) Oversees multiple crews
2) Runs projects under $ 2,000,000. (Projects in this range can vary significantly, very complicated jobs involving structures or deep complicated utilities should be run by superintendents with higher qualifications).
3) Oversees multiple subs
4) Works closely with inspectors
5) Sets agenda then arranges and attends meetings with inspectors and owner’s representatives
6) Can do full quantity take-off from blue prints including earth cuts and fills
7) Can visualize end product from plans
8) Understands complete layout including shooting angles
9) Is willing and able to make sensible decisions in the field without office backup
10) Begins to recognize opportunities to increase profits and is able to capitalize on them
11) Can motivate crews to meet schedules and maximize profits
12) Can run a night time operation under traffic
13) Is responsible for safety on the entire project
14) Understands and uses Job Cost software.

Superintendent Level 2: Intermediate Level
A superintendent at this level should be able to complete the following tasks in addition to the tasks of a superintendent level 1:
1) Oversees multiple crews and multiple foremen
2) Runs projects in the $ 2,000,000 – $ 8,000,000 range
3) Has full control of subcontractors and understands the intricacies of the sub-contractor’s work
4) Has full command of the inspector-superintendent relationship
5) Can handle independently work and personal issues of employees under his/her direction
6) Is willing and able to train foremen
7) Can do a full quantity take off including structure work and electrical work
8) Not only can he visualize the entire project but can modify designer’s plans to achieve greater efficiency and profitability.
9) Has basic understanding of estimating. Can estimate a price for a change order
10) Has basic understanding of project management techniques and the software needed to effectively apply those techniques
Superintendent level 3: Advanced level
A superintendent at this level should be able to complete the following tasks in addition to the tasks of level 1 and 2
1) Can oversee multiple crews/foremen and project engineer
2) Runs projects in the $ 9 million to $ 20 million range
3) Has full control of entire project including complicated negotiations with owner
4) Has good understanding of estimating systems and can estimate multiple activities
5) Has full understanding of project management techniques and can project manage multiple projects in the $1,000,000 to $8,000,000 range.
6) Is willing and able to train other superintendents
7) Can conceptualize and oversee a value engineering proposal.
