Hub to Reopen August 15, 2011


The Norwalk Transit District is pleased to announce the reopening of the WHEELS Hub. The two-year Safety and Security Improvements' Project was funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) as well as with other federal and state grants.

The improvements at the Hub include seven canopies providing 300 linear feet of coverage for passengers; four bus shelters adding additional protection from the weather; bike racks at either end of the Hub; four seat walls as well as benches both inside and outside the shelters; CCTV cameras; and two emergency blue phones.

Resurfacing on I-95 Southbound to Continue in Stamford and Greenwich

 

The State Department of Transportation is announcing that the ongoing resurfacing of I-95 (Southbound) between Exit 8 in Stamford and the New York State Line in Greenwich will continue to Wednesday, August 17, 2011.

 

Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zone. The regular work schedule for this project is 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. (Sunday - Thursday evenings).

 

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving through the work area.

Pavement Preservation Project on Interstate 91 in Windsor Scheduled to Begin Tuesday, July 19, 2011
 
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that construction activities are to begin on Tuesday night,
July 19, 2011, on a six mile stretch of I-91 in Windsor from north of Exit 36 (Route 178) to Exit 44 (Route 5).
The project consists of micro-milling of bridge decks, repairs to rutted sections of pavement, and replacement of catch
basin structures, median barriers and bridge joints. The entire section of I-91 will then be overlaid with a thin surface treatment known as Ultra-thin bonded HMA which is one of several pavement preservation strategies used by the Department to extend the service life of the existing highway system.
LANE CLOSURE INFO - Night work:
  • I-91, Sunday – Thursday and Friday may be scheduled as rain day from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
DOT Project No. 0164-0234 was awarded to Water Construction Co. of Bridgeport, CT on June 1, 2011 at a cost of $6,232,533.40 and is scheduled for completion in December 2011.

Resurfacing and Safety Improvement Project on I-84 in the town of Manchester Scheduled to Start July 18, 2011
 
 
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the start of a resurfacing and safety improvement project on I-84 east and westbound from Exit 60 (Rte 6 & 44) to west of Exit 63 at
the Slater Street Overpass in the Town of Manchester.  The project is scheduled to begin on Monday July, 18, 2011.
DOT Project No.0076-0214 consists of the repairing of existing concrete pavement and then diamond grinding the surface to improve smoothness, and the milling and resurfacing of the
asphalt sections of roadway that include the bridge decks, shoulders, connecting ramps and the H.O.V. lanes.

 

LANE CLOSURE INFO

Motorists can expect lane closures Sunday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

 

The contract was awarded to Waters Construction Company Inc. of Bridgeport, CT on June 1, 2011 at a cost of $6,646,156.10 and is scheduled to be completed by July 2012.
